Christmas at the “Big House” is very special. That’s because it’s decorated by the Friends of Sapelo! And after the Friends have finished dressing the Mansion in its Christmas finery, it’s opened for tour groups and individuals. The tours – which sold out this year – are led by docents from Friends of Sapelo who explain the history and architecture of the Mansion. This year, more than 30 Friends helped decorate, 25 Friends participated as docents and more than 300 people visited the Mansion on tours. Proceeds from the tours were $11,480, which goes towards maintaining and preserving the Mansion. Thanks to all who helped, with particular thanks to Kaye Traer and Linda Daniels for their long-time service in guiding and organizing the decorating and takedown activities, and to Robin White, who trained and organized the docents again this year.
